About Us

Discover the story, mission, and heart of Spanish Baptist Church — a faith community rooted in love and service since 1965.

Our Story

Spanish Baptist Church, known in Spanish as Iglesia Bautista Castellana, was founded in 1965 in response to a growing need among Toronto's Hispanic immigrant community for a place of worship, spiritual guidance, and cultural connection. What began as a small group of faithful believers gathering in a modest space has since grown into a vibrant congregation that has touched the lives of thousands of families across the Greater Toronto Area.

In the early years, the church served primarily as a spiritual refuge for Spanish-speaking newcomers arriving in Canada from Latin America and Spain. The founders understood that language and culture play a vital role in spiritual formation, and they set out to create a space where worship, prayer, and biblical teaching could be experienced in the heart language of the community. This foundational vision has remained at the core of everything we do.

Over the decades, Spanish Baptist Church has weathered seasons of change and growth. Through the 1970s and 1980s, as Toronto's Hispanic population expanded, so did the church. New ministries were established to address the diverse needs of the community — from youth programs and children's education to women's fellowship groups and men's Bible studies. The church became more than a place of Sunday worship; it became a community hub where families found support, friendship, and practical assistance as they built their lives in a new country.

Today, more than sixty years after its founding, Spanish Baptist Church continues to thrive at 46 Denison Road East in Toronto. Our congregation is a multigenerational tapestry of long-time members and recent arrivals, united by a shared faith and a deep commitment to serving God and one another. We remain dedicated to the same mission that inspired our founders: to share the love of Christ, to build up believers in their faith, and to serve our neighbors with compassion and generosity.

"And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another."
